Great Day for a Broken Heart Challenge!!!!

The afternoon was so gloomy and dull, just as you feel when you have a broken heart... I was thinking of my favorite songs for these moments when you feel discouraged and I remembered one of my fav chick flicks(= pelis pochocleras)
Bridget Jones' diary and its opening song: ALL BY MYSELF.

Some years later the song was included in GLEE!!!

So, the challenge is this: CAN YOU ACTUALLY DIE FROM A BROKEN HEART???? A 10 for the first person who can answer this with his/her words, without copying and pasting!!!!

In case you want to hear the whole version of the song included in the episode 17 of season 2 of GLEE by the unique voice of Charice Pempengco, here you go

Looking forward to your answers!!

  1. It is possible to die from a broken heart (in a very literal way) Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (known as broken heart syndrome) was recognized by japanese researchers twenty years ago. This syndrome, temporarily affects the ability of the heart to pump correctly. It has similar symptons as a heart attack. Although its uncommon, it can cause death.

    1. the name of the syndrome is ok but I don't understand what the anatomical reason that causes the heart to pump irregularly is. Keep googling!

    2. The cause of this condition is yet to be confirmed but there are many theories. It is know for a fact that, for three quarters of the people diagnosed with this syndrome, it was triggered by an emotional or physically stressful event.

    3. The left ventricle (the heart's main pumping chamber) is weakened, therefore the pumping of the heart becomes irregular

You can, this is a syndrome most of the time caused by stressfull/shocking events where our emotional pein turns into phisical pain. It may be identified as a chest pain, during that situations. It can result in heart attacks or severe/short term muscular failure. And although it is posible, its deathrate is low. (for sad situations such as loss, it s said you can also die of saddness)

  3. Broken heart syndrome, also called stress-induced cardiomyopathy or takotsubo cardiomyopathy, can strike even if you’re healthy. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy was recognised by the Japanise about 20 years ago. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy tempolary affects the ability of the heart to pump blood. When this happens, the person feels the same and has the same symptoms as if they were having a heart attack. Although it is not common, it can cause death.
Nevertheless, although the heart attack and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy have similar effects, they don't have similiar causes. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is totally psychological, usually comes from a hard psychological stress. The name that is usually given to this is "broken heart syndrome" as it is, usually, caused by a traumatic emotional experience. Another difference with the heart attack is, once you are diagnosticated, the treatment. I f you have a TTC you have to take especific medication (for example, beta blockers, which control heart rhytm and hich blood pressure)

    2. The reason isn't totally clear. However, there are a few theories:
-Stress hormones (example: adrenaline) might temporaly damage the hearts of some people. How these hormones might hurt the heartisn't completely clear.
      - The most "famous" theory is the "Microvascular dysfunction" . This is a dysfunction of the coronary arteries where they are no longer visible by coronary angiography.
      - Another theory is, for example, the "Transient vasospasm". This is multiple spasms at the same time of the coronary arteries that could cause enough loss of blood flow and lead to "transient stunning of the myocardium".

  6. In fact, yes. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy , the medical name given to the "broken heart " feeling , is linked with depression (where our defenses fail, lowering the number of white blood cells), mental health linked to the depression and heart diseases. This broken heart syndrome, can be diagnosticated as a heart attack, because the symptoms and the results of the tests, are the same as the heart attack. So to sum up, yes we can due from a broken heart.

You can die from a broken heart but it would a be very rare case. Although your heart doesnt breaks literally, living a sresfull situation can lead to a malfunction of the heart since there is a tie between depression, mental health and heart disease.
The feeling when you suffer from broken heary syndrome is a sudden strong pain in the chest, similar to the feeling you get when someone breaks you heart (poetically speaking). This syndrome does not have physycal evidence, and that is why it is wrongly diagnosticide as a heart attack.

  8. Yes! You can actually die from a broken heart. Broken heart syndrome, algo known as stress-induced cardio myopothy can be caused even in a healthy person. It can be caused due to stressful events, or even emotionally ones, that may lead to chest pains. This syndrome is generally misdiagnosed as heart attack as botch have similar symptoms and test results, although in this syndrome there is no evidence of blocked heart arteries.

  9. In broken heart syndrome, your heart pumps undiscoordinately: a part of the heart enlarges and doesn't pump well while the other part pumps normally, or even with more contractions

  10. The " broken heart syndrome " or Tsubo cardiomyopathy presents similar to those of a heart attack symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath . But it is usually temporary , no sequelae , and does not affect the coronary arteries as a heart attack, but the heart muscle. According to a study published in mid-2009 in the American Journal of Cardioloy , the disorder appears to be due to an increase in the level of stress-related hormones , such as adrenaline . They not occlude arteries , but is the heart muscle that suffers and weakens to the point that the left ventricle acquires a conical shape. -Luna Lanfranchi
